Princess Charlotte is a royal with a passion for sports but the young member of The Firm has one sport she doesn’t like. Princess Catherine recently offered a glimpse into what it’s like raising Princess Charlotte who has often accompanied her to Wimbledon and other sporting events.
During a visit to Wakefield Trinity, she met a group of schoolgirls taking part in rugby, reports The Royal Observer. Chatting with them, Princess Catherine spoke about Charlotte’s active routine, but said: “She does loads of sport but not rugby.”

But, Charlotte’s reluctance towards rugby does not always seem to have been there.
The sport was very much part of family life for the royals and in a 2023 interview with Town & Country, Nigel Gillingham, the President of the RFU, said: “She [Catherine] was telling me that she regularly plays rugby with her children in the back garden, and lots of other sports,” he said.
Despite not liking rugby, the young princess does have enthusiasm for other forms of physical activity.

She enjoys gymnastics, which holds a special place in her heart as her favourite pursuit, reports GB News.
Princess Charlotte revealed her passion for gymnastics to Tim Lawler, CEO of charity Sports Aid, during the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Lawler said at the time: “She really, really loved seeing the swimming, but she’s interested in gymnastics, and while they’re trying lots of different sports at home, I understand, when I asked her about sport she answered very easily and said, ‘It’s gymnastics that I like.”
Princess Charlotte is also known to have taken part in netball, soccer, tennis and track field.

In 2025, Prince William told Olympic track and field star Keely Hodgkinson that her forte is hurdles and the 400m run.
It has been reported that Princess Charlotte’s brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis both play rugby at Lambrook School, where all three children currently attend.
Catherine joked that she wouldn’t like to be tackled by her eldest son, who will move on to secondary school this year.
