Prince William, Princess Kate and kids move to new home

The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their three children Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte, are spending the summer preparing for a move.

William, Catherine and their kids plan to move later this year to Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom home on the Windsor Castle estate in Windsor, England, a Kensington Palace spokesperson confirmed to ABC News.

The Wales family currently lives in a four-bedroom home, Adelaide Cottage, which is also situated on the Windsor Castle estate.

The palace spokesperson did not specify exactly when the family plans to move.

William and Catherine have lived with their kids in Adelaide Cottage since 2022, when the family moved there from their residence at Kensington Palace, where they had lived since 2017.

A senior royal source told ABC News at the time that the family’s move to the country was primarily driven by their choice of school, as well as a desire to give their children as “normal” an upbringing as possible.

Since 2022, George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7, have attended Lambrook School in Berkshire.

Catherine also attended prep school in Berkshire as a child, and her parents Michael and Carole Middleton live in nearby Bucklebury, which is just over 30 miles away from Windsor.

“This move puts them much closer to the Middletons, and Catherine is very close to her family,” ABC News royal contributor Victoria Murphy said in 2022 about the family’s move from London to Windsor. “It also emulates in many ways the upbringing [Catherine] had in rural Berkshire, which she has spoken fondly of and I think has always had a big influence over how the Cambridges have shaped their family life.”

In addition to their new Forest Lodge home, William and Catherine also still own their residence at Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall, their home on the royal family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Before they move into Forest Lodge, William and Catherine are reportedly paying for their own renovations to the home.

The couple’s decision to move homes comes after a challenging few years for their family. In 2024, both Catherine and her father-in-law King Charles III announced they had been diagnosed with cancer.

Catherine announced her cancer diagnosis publicly in March 2024 but did not share the type of cancer or stage. She underwent chemotherapy and announced in January that her cancer is in remission.

Charles’ cancer diagnosis was announced by Buckingham Palace in February 2024, shortly after he received treatment for benign prostate enlargement.

The palace did not disclose the type or stage of Charles’ cancer or the specifics of his treatment plan.
