Bashful Princess of Wales’ shy reaction to being told she’s beautiful

The Princess of Wales is known for her immaculate style and for being one of the most beautiful women in the world.

But it appears Catherine, 44, is still very humble when it comes to receiving a compliment – as was shown during her visit to the Evelina London Children’s Hospital on Monday.

The royal mother-of-three met 14-year-old Hope Turnbull, who was with her mother Connie, and had suffered a relapse of heart problems she’s had since birth, but was hoping to go home soon.

Catherine asked her: “Do your friends know what you have gone through? And what you have gone through physically as well as emotionally?” Her mother said proudly: “She’s a strong girl. The strongest girl I know.”

As the Princess stood up after their conversation, Connie couldn’t resist saying: “You are beautiful!”

At this, the Princess smiled bashfully and quickly returned the compliment, telling her: “So are you!”

The Princess of Wales’s very modest reaction to compliments

The royal was also told she was “beautiful and perfect” on a visit to Warsaw in 2017 with Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte. However, Catherine reportedly responded: “It’s just the make-up.”

Catherine spoke to well-wishers outside the presidential palace, including 21-year-old student Magda Mordaka.

Magda said: “We were telling her that she is beautiful and perfect, but she said it’s not true – it’s just the make-up.”

The future Queen was also told she was beautiful during a 2025 visit to Scotland with William, who had the best reaction.

The Prince of Wales responded: “You don’t have to say that. Don’t worry.”

Following his reply, Prince William affectionately placed a hand on his wife’s arm as they continued on their way.

Catherine returns to Evelina London Children’s Hospital

Catherine was welcomed to Evelina London Children’s Hospital by its chief executive, Gubby Ayida, as she began a tour meeting patients and families who have already benefited from changes.

She was wearing a bracelet which appeared to be made from string, made for her by her daughter Princess Charlotte when she undertook her recent Three Peaks Challenge.

The future Queen is the hospital’s patron and has visited a number of times over the years to get updates about its progress and last made a trip in 2023 to open its children’s day centre.

Evelina London is expanding its services to meet increasing demand, and plans are underway for a new hospital building next to the existing site, expected to open in the early 2030s.
